Dangers of Dog Walking

I was just walking my dog. I wasn’t doing anything that I thought was dangerous. But it was.

I slipped on a small patch of ice and hurt my back. This didn’t seem like much at first but I was unable to go to work the next day.

I’m a carpenter and so I need to be able to move things, hammer things, screw things together and climb ladders. Having constant back pain might be OK if you can sit on your butt all day in an office, but not so much if you have to go up and down ladders.

Four months have passed since my dog walking affair and I’m still unable to work. I’m so glad that I bought individual Alaska disability insurance. This coverage allows me to pay my bills and keep my dignity.

I have a good family and a few good friends. I’d like to think that they would help us if we needed it. However being able to pay my mortgage with the disability insurance checks means that we don’t have to beg.

My wife works a little more than she used to. One reason is that the checks we get from the disability insurance company are a little light when compared to my regular salary. The other reason is that I’m home more and we don’t need a babysitter when my wife is offered an extra shift.

I should be back to work in a few months and hopefully everything will be back to normal. I think it is funny that I hurt my back after walking my dog. I’ve been going up and down ladders for twelve years without any injuries.
